Re: the spiritual side of fasting
I agree with you andrew, that the spiritual experiences will be more intense once we are more like empty vessels. in that way i feel like i have a long way to go as well, and i look forward to reaching that point, (or as close as i can get to it, anyway!)
my ultimate goal is to write a book about my life experiences, but i always feel like something is holding me back, like i'm being held back from sharing my life until i'm really ready, until i've understood things more completely. other than my eczema/allergy thing, that is the main reason for undergoing my fasting journey. i have a degree in english literature, and i've done lots of poetry and song-writing, but the mountain i really want to climb is this book project... i feel it is the boon i am meant to bring.
have you read/heard of "the hero with a thousand faces"? it was the book that inspired George Lucas to create Star Wars... anyway, it's all about how we are the heroes of our own lives, and we must go through the dark night's of our souls to ultimately discover SOMETHING of vast importance about ourselves so that we may one day be of service to others, and help them come through their own dark nights. otherwise, we are all doomed to go through life blindly, with (as William Blake would say) "mind-forged manacles" on, day-in-day-out, with that dreadful "eat, drink, and be merry for tomorrow we die" attitude. andrew, i think you are already a hero having gone through your own "underworld" and your boon to society is being fulfilled by spending so much time helping people like me on this forum :)
fondly,
