Re: How long do affects last for?
Hello #97202,
fortunately our vitamins are supplied by the action of sunlight on plants thru a process known as photosynthesis and are not reliant on the soil, as we are with minerals.
Synthetic vitamins can be more easily and efficiently absorbed if they are "chelated" by bonding to amino acids, but there is no substitute for organic vitamins available from plants which are much more bio-available.
RDA's for vitamins and minerals are woefully inadequate as demonstrated by the annals of Orthomolecular Medicine, a term coined by Linus Pauling. These RDA's only take into account the amount of a particular nutrient to prevent disease (as with Vitamin C to prevent scurvy) but does not take into account "optimum" levels of these nutrients for that purpose.
I would suggest that you read the book by Stephen Hickey (a medical bio-physicist) entitled "Ascorbate: The
Science of Vitamin C" to fully understand the body's needs for vitamins and minerals at the optimum level for optimum health.
