Re: One long fast or several shorter fasts? Or several long fasts?
I appreciate the encouraging words fonty and chrisb1.
I have eaten a very strict (no grains, dairy or processed foods) and
healthy Diet for the last 5 months (save a hand full of slip ups at social occasions), and a healthier than 99% of other people's diet for the last year. And at one point I lost maybe 20
pounds (but being what I consider a little underweight) and felt pretty good before I gained a little of the weight back but while still eating pretty healthy and fell into negative thought patterns. So I believe I detoxed and healed myself in the period that I lost a little weight through eating much less and lots of exercise. Although it was over a period of months. I am sure fasting will do the same in a much more concentrated form.
Well I didn't eat at all yesterday. I was kind of hungry and weak at night. I fell asleep pretty early compared to my normal bed time as of late. The bad taste in my mouth didn't take long lol. My tongue is always coated, but a little more than normal today. I don't have much hunger today. I have been eating maybe less than 1/2 or even a 1/3 the carbs most people eat. So I think it's reasonable to think that I would enter ketosis faster than the average person. I wonder how that will effect the process.
oh.. and a thought about water. A lot of my reading on fasting has recommended distilled water for the reason that it draws out toxins better or something to that effect.. Well I have been doing a lot of reading on nutrition prior to this fasting ordeal and I read several very legitimate and convincing things on the benefit of proper mineral content in one's drinking water. I don't know if I buy the seemingly anecdotally claims that distilled water is optimal. I have read things that state that people even on normal diets who drink a lot of distilled water are more prone to mineral imbalances. While fasting it would seem that one would become imbalanced in minerals much faster, and I wonder if a lot of reported fasting symptoms are related to that.
I am not entirely convinced that it is necessary to deplete your intake of minerals through pure distilled water that I would assume isn't normally found in nature. Your body absorbs minerals very quickly right? It seems logical to me that this takes minimal effort by the body and wouldn't effect a huge majority of the digestive process and all the vital organs leaving them free to promote healing. It takes energy from the body to absorb water right? Can a little mineral intake really be a significant energy drain on the body and especially when your taking in water anyways? Maybe I will cycle the use of
Sea Salt in my water.
