Pickling lime water

Hi!

WHen you mix the distilled water (one gallon= 3,8 quarts) with a tbs of the pickling lime powder, in what do you mix this? I only have a 2 quart jar, does it have to be mixed in a glass container, or can I use some kind of bucket? Its a lot of water.
Can you use smaller amounts of water to a smaller amount of the powder?
