Re: how often do you fast?
Hi bling,
I don't think there are many people who can honestly say that they are hungry first thing in the morning after rising, so your body is then actually telling you something: "I don't need nourishment at the moment thank you very much, please only eat when I am actually hungry."
However, breaking a fast is rather different, and can be broken at anytime, even at breakfast. I would personally always break a fast with fresh fruit juices: orange/apple is a good combo', and as a juice, it will kick-start digestion more gently than with solid food, but reintroducing solid food when breaking a fast of any length is fine, just so long as it is a high water content food such as oranges or melons.
Good news that your son wants to eat: children tend to still have their natural instincts, more so than adults, but I can't think of a worse combination for your son than: wholegrain cereal (starch) and milk (protein), and a banana (fruit), still, if thats what he wants! As long as the banana is ripe and speckled with brown (the starch has turned to sugars) it is digestible & nourishing, but if it is yellow/green it is unripe, and mostly pure starch and very indigestible.
Try him with thoroughly-ripe mashed bananas with grated apple and sun-dried raisins/currants....very yummy and properly combined to boot!!!
