I swear some people who drink strong drinks,buy the expensive tinctures and take a shot of them instead or with thir normal booze of the day, so I don't think taking herbs with booze that is also made from some plant is going to harm the person anymore than the alcohol does.
Basically too much grain alcohol is hard for the liver to process 1 drink per day is going to do little damage, but 2-3 and 5 are going to be more than a liver should have to deal with.
I never suggest commercial alcoholic drinks, but Christopher used vodka and brandy for his extracts, which is common yet today.
