Re: Q about water intake
Yes gunnerrat,
I would agree that we are not as far apart as you think.
But it all depends on what you mean by dehydration and its definition, and how it affects the body generally.
My first fast of 25 days, 30 years ago, my urine started as clear, but as the fast progressed, and well into the 10th day and beyond, my urine became progressively darker until the point where it was almost black in color.
Towards the 30th day, and my fasts termination, it became lighter in color with the same minimal water consumption throughout its length: this didn't mean that I was dehydrated, but a symptom of increased elimination thru my kidneys, and not a symptom of dehydration. This has always been the experience, and a common symptom of elimination, for thousands of fasters who undergo prolonged fasts, throughout the last 150 years.
Excessive water drinking during a fast, even by a small amount, will make the urine lighter in color which (as Dr
Shelton & others have said) is, or can be, a symptom of decreased elimination, as the body is coping with that excess water, which only serves to "dilute" the color of the urine.
Many fasters also undergo what is referred to as "dry fasting", where they have lived mostly on high-water-content food pre-fast, and drink very little if any water for days. The member Fonty knows more about that than I do, so it might be a good idea to ask him.
