Re: Proper way to break a fast?
Question - what great harm? I have seen this in my research, but have not really grasped the idea. Very often the "authorities" will state that all the good of the fast will be undone with bad food to start the re-feeding. Really? Are the benefits of fasting so precarious?
I am just embarking on a
Water Fast to follow 3 days of juicing. I did a 30 day juice fast in 2006. I ate small portions of fruit to break the fast, but by dinner I had a backed potato with butter lined up with my name on it. (I had dreamed of one for the duration - go figure.) I had no digestive problems at all, and was eating fairly normal after 2-3 days. And happy about it.
As I understand it, the main challenge off breaking a fast is to restart peristalses. Why on earth - given a healthy digestive track - would anyone want to nibble on celary sticks for 2 weeks? Is there a hidden agenda in the fasting manifesto? To convert everyone to a raw eating vegan?
Not meaning to be confrontational, but when it comes to health and medicine there are so many concepts that achieve sacred status without challenge. I have never seen one good reason why my wonderful backed potato w/ butter should have been considered a problem. (I did make 2 however, and the 2nd would indeed have been a problem :)
