Re: 24 to 36hr weekly fasts
I have a vague memory of hearing about that now. It would have been interesting to see how long he lived to. Although going into your nineties surfing, fit and disease free is a great testimony to the lifestyle and fasting. My Dad is in his eighties and although has had a couple of heart attacks, he still works his allotment. If he had fasted he might have avoided those. I would not tell my family about fasting though,(except immediate family, who already know) they wouldn't understand. We have a nurse in the family and i've told her about other alternative health stuff and we ended having an arguement, so i keep quiet now.
If you eat well the day before a fast, then do a 36 hr one, then a day or two of careful eating, that is the week nearly gone, so encourages you to eat healthier. He does advice to go over to raw gradually. Hopefully in a few weeks i might just carry on with one and turn it into a 10 day fast.
Even my husband has been reading his book, it is very readable, and lots of interesting facts. Like i never realised how much salt was in milk. We looked at the bottle we had and was quite surprised, i didn't actually think it had any, or maybe just a trace.
Yes i knew the body conserved muscle during a fast, but it loses a bit before going into ketosis, so i thought if you were doing regular short fasts, this might build up.
