I am very suspicious of anyone who says that fasting damaged any part of their body without actually going into details. I don't know of any reason why the liver would have been damaged by a fast. The body just doesn't overtax itself while fasting, it knows it's capabilities and works within them. And the body can and does revitalise the liver while it is fasting, it doesn't just dump all the work on one internal organ at the expense of all others.
A FAQ page would maybe be useful but nothing can replace open minded research. We don't know enough about the body to really understand what is going on during a fast, but we have more than enough reasons to trust that our body is an amazing self repairing machine that we need to give the time and space it needs to do the cleaning and repairing needed. If the research an first hand accounts aren't enough to allay your fears you may just need to take the 'bit at a time' approach and see for yourself how successful it can be in shorter 'safer' attempts. Don't start a fast afraid of such things, only go as long as you feel it is safe to do so.
