Re: Why should one prepare before a fast?

I know one experienced fasting co-ordinator who says we should NEVER fast without preparation. That we should prepare with raw foods and wait for a healing crisis to occur naturally before stopping eating. That fasting is a response of the organism to a stimulus not something we should just decide to do.

Well, that's a good idea but not so practical. :) Fasting is something I believe, and have read elsewhere too, can be undertaken at any time. It will bring on it's own healing crises and is it's own preparation. I've gone cold turkey and actually preferred it that way when I was coming off junk food- that simply worked for me. It was harder than when I prepare for my fasts nowadays though, quite a chore! So it is easier to fast if you prepare in my experience but I don't believe it is at all unsafe to do it without preparation.

I think that preparing, at least in the short term, say a meal of fruit before the fast or even a few days of raw- will just serve to make the transition days easier. I always feel full and satisfied going into a fast for the first day or two, not empty and craving as many report. So the cravings can be worse if you don't prepare. And in general if you eat a junky diet you won't stop or even lessen any severe crises that a fast will bring up by a few days of raw eating. It would take weeks or months of raw to do what the fast does in a few days, so I say get right into it and eat better after the fast so you don't have to do it all again next year!

Andrew.
