'Captain Scholar' or 'Godlover'?
I am a Godlover, not a "God faith-er". Of course I do have faith in Him and trust Him, but my faith is borne out of LOVE for Him and the people (I have love in my heart and mind,...respect for humanity). Seeing as how you are searching for the truth about God, I assume that you also have love in your heart. He does say that we should abide by (live by)...
1) faith
2) hope
and
3) love (1 Corinthians 13:13)
and that LOVE is "the GREATEST of these"
Well, it seems like you're off to a good start (after all, God is LOVE, not faith).
Mankind's chosen doctrine of text/law/commands/sin/faith really doesn't 'cut the ice' with God (because "God is LOVE"), in Hebrews 6:1, it's called the "elementary" (introductory) doctrine, but after learning to discipline ourselves for His sake, we should move on and search the scriptures with His spirit in order to discover "the depths" of God (1 Corinthians 2:10). The bible is a record of what God SAID to humanity up until two thousand years ago (2 Timothy 2:15 and Ephesians 1:13, "word of TRUTH", John 14:6), but the word that we should live by presently proceeds from His mouth when we hear what His spirit speaks to us (Ephesians 6:17). We should learn to make a clear distinction between right and wrong...as with a sword we should divide morality in two, leaving only right and wrong, good and evil, so that there is no middle ground when good changes to bad ("no variation or shadow due to change"). Christianity has forgotten/overlooked that there are also OTHER things that belong to salvation...

We have gotten used to being fed on the MILK of the word, but now we should be ready for "solid food" (Hebrews 5:14), for some have made shipwreck of their own personal relationship by rejecting conscience. Jesus purified our souls, and if we choose to also learn from God's holy spirit, our conscience can also be purified.

So, we must do what was done at the well and DRINK of the living water of God's spirit, for simply eating of the bread of life is not enough...

My dad didn't "COMMAND" me (he didn't have to, I wanted to learn rightly) and wasn't particularly bothered that I would sin against propriety (codes of etiquette, dress codes, table manners, etc.). The prodigal son who sinned against HEAVEN was treated with parental love also. When I was old enough to make my own decisions (because I learned HOW to be decent, right from wrong), he would only reprove/correct me if I wasn't pigheaded, but I never feared him (I welcomed his correction). Unbelievers should fear not knowing God (it is the beginning of wisdom), but now we should know God as "friend" (like Abraham) and our love should be PERFECTED, 1 John 4:18, Isaiah 29:13).
