Re: Question for Fonty and Crisb1
The most successful way of breaking my fasts so far has been:
Half and half freshly squeezed lemon juice and water. (most of my fasts are dry fasts however and lemon juice is said to be good for breaking a dry fast)
1-2 hours later a small portion of fruit. Usually this is canteloupe and watermelon, which are available pretty much all year round here. Sometimes another fruit is in season and particularly tempting like peaches which will serve just as well. The longer the fast the smaller the portion.
2 hours later another small portion of the same fruit.
2 hours later I will probably have a different juicy fruit and do the same for the rest of the first day. I might have freshly squeezed juice at some point too.
Second day and on through the first week.
More fruit but in larger portions less often. I usually end up by the end of 5-7 days having only one or two meals of fruit for the day and that is plenty to satisfy me. I will also add freshly made almond milk and banana and strawberry smoothies, especially if my kids are with me coz they love em. They are good to have as an 'evening meal' following a day on fruit only if you need something more filling.
I eat fruit only for the first half of the recovery period. If I feel the need for something more I will add some raw nuts.
2nd half of Recovery/Refeeding-
I always eat fruit first thing, mostly at around lunchtime coz that's when I start feeling hungry. On days when I'm hungrier I might have fruit for breakfast and two day meals like normal people but more often it's two meals while eating raw.
My 'main meal' in the second half of the refeeding period is a tossed raw salad. I basically chuck everything in that I like eating- lettuce, sprouts, tomato, cucumber, raw corn off the cob, grated carrot and betroot and avocado. Towards the end of the refeeding period I will add a single cooked food to the salads but that depends on how much I feel the need for the taste more than anything. Raw foods are the healthiest and the more we can limit the amount of cooked and processed foods in our diets the better- that particularly applies to the recovery period though.
