Re: Thanks guys!
Yeah that was speculation after reading up on ketosis Mel. My first wife was booked into a birth centre within a hospital for our first child but at 37 weeks we got the iron tests back and they told us that if she didn't get an injection they'd have to remove her to the hospital section down the hall- closer to the operating theatre in case she started bleeding everywhere. They ignored the fact that she was a vegetarian and veggoes have lower iron needs to start with and she had more energy while pregnant than she'd had before when she was actually hypoglycaemic with symptoms of chronic fatigue.
The birth centre was only a compromise to begin with though and none of us wanted a normal hospital delivery for our baby so we did it at home alone. I delivered my first child in the privacy of our own bedroom and my wife's low iron vegetarian body coped more than well with the ordeal.
We did quite a bit of research about iron at the time, discovering that more than 100 mgs a day was toxic but tablets come in 400 mgs and the injection is something like 800? Anyway crazy amounts, she used a herbal supplement during the pregnancy and she had plenty enough energy for herself and our baby.
If only I'd known before I had children what I do now though.
Andrew.
