SOUND, again!, by MH
Only by mistake was I able to restore the sound to the e-machine computor after a reboot; this I am 100% sure of. After several days and 4+ hours or so time, the problem was that the driver for the sound was not installed by the RESTORE function. The computer was restored to factory settings and like new again; so it could be used by the kids for their games. The only problem being that the sound driver does not automatically install.
The problem is this; only by mistake, for some unknown reason to me, in the restore section one time I looked, there it was, INSTALL the sound driver and I clicked the button and instantly the computer had sound. So now the problem is I had 2 of these e-machines I was not using anymore and wanted to reboot them and turn them over to the kids, so after getting lucky with the first one, today I rebooted the next one and sure enough NO SOUND! It also forced me to use the 4 reboot cds, I actually had to read the computor manual and I believe that is a first for me, I have never read 1 page on how to operate a computor prior to today. The instructions seemed CRAZY, I had to insert cd 1 and then turn the computer on and before it booted up, type 1 and hit enter and then quickly type R and then Y in the correct 3-4 seconds they allow or you loose and have to start over and it took me 4 starts before I had the correct timing and it took the 4 cds and rebooted the computer the same as the first one did, only the first one had a place to click and it did it with no cd back ups needed.
So I spend about an hour doing all the same things and once again, the driver restore button is still a ghost! So I figure I can surely find the same spot on the first computor and NO, it is back to being a ghost again as well!
I even read the next page in the computer book and it even said you may loose some drivers and told how to update the drivers using the back up cds. So I easily do this and the computor says the current drivers are the best, they are fine and working well, no problems;;;;;same problem I had with the first computor, until I stumbled on some unknown button that lead me to a page that simple said click here to install the sound driver that was located in the reboot type of stuff.
I have rebooted a total of 3 computors in my life, all 3 lost their sound, the first computor being a gateway, I purchased the cheapest sound card from best buy that cost $80.00, installed it my self and had sound aka; I was stupid and succumbed to the traps set by the people that make computors. AFTER ALL, the first computor said it had NO SOUND CARD and needed one, so I purchased one..
The second computer said the same thing, no sound card, so no sound. They are not ging to tell you that for some reason they chose to make the sound disconnect when you reboot and it is possible to reconnect the factory sound. I stumbled into the correct path that lead to the SECRET CHAMBER; I swear the kid that designed the method LOVES to make all those mystery computer games as well!
These are the facts:
1. I rebooted from cd to factory specs.
2. The computor appears factory new.
3. The sound does not work.
4. The speakers can not be adjusted for sound, because the system says I have no sound.
5. All testing of the sound states they are correct and operating properly.
6. The last help section suggest that the driver is not recognized by the windows, even though the driver says it is proper and working correctly. The help says this is not something it can help with. The last help has you update your drivers and all drivers are updated and say they are operating correctly, the only problem being that the computer windows does not have the proper path to recognise that the sound is available.
7. I know for a fact that 1 click of one button corrects the problem, it has something to do with the RESTORE that was used to reboot the computor and it only needs to be told to install the sound and in 2 seconds it does it; the mystery is HOW does one find this secret chamber! When I went back to the last computer that I was able to chance the secret place, today that page does not appear, I can't find it and assume it takes a correct path that leads to the secret spot.
8. As much as I hated to, I even read the book, all 2 pages on how to reboot using the cd restore and it even says you will have this problem and leaves it at that, they don't want you to know, they like you to seek our dealer! They actually want you to pitch the computor and buy a new one!
So anyone that knows a thing about computors, should know instantly how to get to the secret chamber, this has to be one of the most common issues over the past 10 years of anyone that rebooted a computer, because the first computor I had the problem with was a GATEWAY and these 2 current ones are e-machines. I am sure anyone with a apple is laughing by now and what is up with the apple computors, I have never seen one for sale in a store, are they reserved for special people? Or are they outcast from commercial stores and bent over the barrel by Bill Gates?
Please let me know if anyone has the secret path, If it works, I will make a paper copy and tape it on the side of each computor for future referances!
Blessings,
MH
