Re: raw food diet
Dave, I truly believe that I was close to dying when I came here and yes, I opted for a holistic lifestyle that is constantly evolving. Am I totally fruitarian? I WISH I could tell you "Hey Dave, I went raw and haven't put any cooked food in my body in 2 yrs." I'd have to lie to do that.
My liver and digestive tract took a leap forward when I took MH at his word that fruit is the easiest on the digestive tract. In the spring of 2006, I started drinking one quart of Lakewood Farms organic juice each day. I started eating one mono-fruit meal each day ... my cheat from then on was hommus and chips (the best I can find) at night. Once each week or every other week, I go to lunch with a couple of folks from work ... grilled chicken, barely cooked eggs, oriental, another lil place that serves better choice kind of foods and will even make me a portabello mushroom salad rather than put it on the big hunk of italian bread, another chain place called sprouts that will fix me a greens and fruit wrap with sprouts and nuts. I worked very hard to make the best choices where we eat and they learned if they want my company, they go where I'll eat.
I've had problems trying to fast with my liver ... dang thing feels like it swells up like a ballon after 2 days. Last month, I added plant oils to my fasting and that helps. Afer the new year, I'll be going for my first long term fast with OJ. Between now and then I'm taking milk thistle to rejuvinate the liver as much as possible. MH has my iodine on it's way.
Vacation this year crashed all my good intentions and I'm having a heck of a time getting back to where I was ... donuts, all the coffee and capucino I wanted, tea, breads, fish, regular vacation foods. Since Labor Day, I'm having God-awful cravings and it's all junk!!!!
TODAY I promise myself to do better!!!!!!
My hot leamonade is my breakfast (with olive oil added for a gentle liver flush for this month)
My lunch will be one whole pineapple (I literally have THREE pineapples sitting on the kitchen counter).
Supper will be a large green salad with things like onion, garlic and ginger ... homemade salad dressing out of things like olive oil, lemon, tamari (organic soy sauce), crushed red pepper.
I have MUCH more energy when I do eat raw. A cooked meal makes me want to sleep and if I have an opportunity to lay down after eating, I wake up feeling like I'm 1/2 dead.
Oh, by the way, I'm not including but two root vegetable in my diet and that's radish and carrot and only a little bit grated into my salads.
I'm currectly reading David Wolfe's The Sunfood Diet Success System. He explains fruits and greens this way and it makes sense to me:
the minerals that we get from fruits are potassium and sodium.
the minerals we get from green leaves are magnesium and iron.
I know that I feel better when I'm getting both.
*grabs self by collar, "gurl, you're going to do this RIGHT"*
