Re: a bit nervous
Hi, you are right to be frightened because the effects that synthetic hormones can have on our bodies in the LONG term is very frightening, let alone the short term. There ARE people who have been happy with mirena, it is just that this forum is populated by those of us who have had terrible problems with mirena, but i would never recommend it to anyone. The way my specialist sold it to me was that side effects hardly ever happen and if they do, they only happen to people who already had problems before mirena - for example, if you normally get headaches they might be worse with mirena. If you normally get
Depression you might feel worse with mirena - and that was it, no mention of any other side effects at all. I had never had a headache or been depressed, other than when my mother died which was natural, so i thought OK, i will try it! First 6 months i was reasonably ok, i had bleeding etc but expected that, as i had been bleeding anyway before hand. As my periods began to dry up, my really bad side effects started which frightened the hell out of me. I wish i had never got the mirena - i would rather have suffered my long term bleeding problems than have the left over long term side effects of mirena that i am still having to combat. Personally, i wouldnt recommend mirena to my worst enemy. But we all have free choice and if you want to try it, then try it. But do be aware of what CAN happen - that is really important, because most of us were not told by our doctors that anything much can happen at all and even though they have most of the side effects in their own private prescribing information they usually refuse to accept that mirena can be the cause of our problems - maybe because they dont want to be sued for negligence or something, i dont know. You may have already seen this link as you have been reading other posts, but i will post it here for you, just in case - you should really read the whole thing very carefully taking note of possible side effects that can happen, as well as the side effects not mentions as normal side effects but that are under the Warnings section and the Cautions. Then you will at least be informed. All drugs that we take are at our own risk, but we cannot assess the risks properly if we do not have all the information, so once you have that, you can make an informed decision. Good luck, whatever you finally decide to do:) we are here if you need us:) xx here is the link..
