Re: respect

I think women are the ones to really really push for consciousness. The women's movement is crucial. It has been proven that when women have control over their reproductive rights and access to education society in general improves and of course the population reduces which is pretty damn important these days. Womens rights = a brighter future and I fear we are beginning to slip backwards lately.

I love seeing the young women who are more open - intelligent and kind of take things for granted that we did not - such freedom - I feel that what we went through and those who really pioneered it before us went through was worth it, but I do wish that present day women would realize that it took a lot of work to get us here and it will take more to keep us here and to further the cause.

It's like those who denigrate unions - not realizing that if it were not for the unions we would not have weekends or 8 hour work days - and many of their parents would not have had college educations and great professions because THEIR parents would not have been able to afford to send them to college. In the 60's and 70's there were good paying union jobs that allowed ordinary working class family's to rise above the old standards. A mother could stay at home and be a homemake etc. We have to remember what the struggles were that came before us. Now we are headed back to 12 hour workdays 7 and 6 day work weeks and no benefits and no right to unionize History.... herstory.... and no right to choose.

Oh well - I'm getting older, but guess what - my 25 year old niece is living with us now and she and I have long interesting conversations all the time so I guess that's a good sign. real solid communication between the generations! My 40 year old daughter too. Tweet
