Exodus 3:14 "...I AM WHO I AM".
In scripture there are many names used for God (YHWH, Yahweh, Elohim, Adonai, etc.). There were also many tribes, cultures, events/situations, and languages in ancient times. In Exodus 3:15, Moses is told by "I am who I am" that "...this is my name FOREVER" (regardless of all tribes, cultures, events/situations and languages).
In scripture, there is no COMMAND (or even an explicit SUGGESTION) that God would prefer (yes, what God prefers/likes matters to me) to be called by His rightful name, it is completely our free will choice to know Him by that name or not. God does not have a nickname. Whether we choose to disrespectfully force a nickname (unchristian behavior/attitude) on someone or not depends on how much of a true friend we are to them (it has to with LOVE, a very CHRISTIAN attitude), but there is a definite indication in those two verses that we will always be unable to know the real OBJECTIVE truth of God (not man's SUBJECTIVE truth) until we know Him by His proper/PERSONAL name (necessary for a personal relationship).
Yahweh, Elohim, etc. are MAN'S chosen names for God.
