Re: Diet Questions + Is Electrolyte Water OK?

Hey good luck with the diet... it sure can be tough. Even though it has not helped me (maybe just not yet?) don't be discouraged! This is a good trial for you to run, and maybe it is just what you need. A couple of notes about your latest posts... dried fruit like raisins is supposed to be one of the biggest offenders for candida sufferers, so the fact that they bothered you so much sounds like a good clue! I understand the confusion about the tomatoes and granny smiths-- I too have read all of the conflicting info on them, and I choose to stay away for the most part. I think I had cooked tomatoes once this month, and I am afraid of the apples so I leave them alone.

Have you read The Yeast Connection book? It's full of good info, and I got a Yeast Connection Cookbook that has tons of recipes that will help you create tasty meals that are on the diet. It is hard to not lose weight on this diet, but once you get the hang of it, you won't go hungry any more. Tip for breakfast; try quinoa flakes. They are delicious and hearty! I started eating them because the reports on oatmeal were too inconsistent for me. Quinoa pancakes are also very versatile. They take a long time to make, but they are good on-the-go snacks with a little butter or a meat filling like a wrap/sandwich. I was told to stay away from buckwheat until symptoms subsided (still waiting!) but that quinoa was OK even in flour form.

Last note... and I hope this does not confuse the issue further. I know that Nystatin is what is generally perscribed for systemic yeast, but I have read that because it has been used for so long, many strains of yeast are now resistant and that Diflucan was actually a better bet. I myself took the Nystatin on my doc's recommendation, but I happen to have Diflucan so now I am giving that a try. That's something that you might want to read about or address with your doc... if the meds are not working, I hear that diet alone can take about two months.

Best wishes!!
