Re: with pet dewormer (or not)-- anyone notice dog losing patches of hair?
Dear Perusing,
Years ago when we moved into an old house we lived with a gas smell, thinking it was just the dogs, old carpeting, and stuff from a previous tenant. We replaced the carpet and painted everything.
One day I noticed that there was a definite garlicy smell coming from below, where the furnace was.
I knew nothing about furnaces, but I decided to phone the gas company to tell them.
The telephone answering person immediately asked if we would be at home for the next hour, because, if we weren't, they would shut off the connection at the street.
They take immediate action on gas smells.
They actually add garlic to the gas lines, on purpose to get your attention.
Sure enough, the gas man arrived within the hour, and sprayed water on the pipe. The telltale bubbles of a leak showed immediately. If he hadn't seen it right away, he'd have gone on testing until he found where it was coming from.
Do me a favor...two?
Phone your gas company immediately? They are available in the middle of the night, and on holidays, I am sure.
And, get you and your whole family away from breathing that stuff? ...Paint fumes included.
There is no such thing as a 'little' gas leak, hon. Err on the side of caution, won't you please? Better safe than sorry.
Thinking of you.
Fledgling
