When I was a little girl I thought Mt Gaylor was my mountain because it (almost) had my name. My dad's family were early pioneer settlers in Crawford County. A lot of them married up with the Cherokee folks just over the Oklahoma border. My great grandmother and great-great grandmother were called Indian yarb doctors. They walked all over those mountains gathering wild herbs and delivering babies. My Grandmother used to tell of day long forays into the hills with her grandmother to gather healing herbs. Now, just a couple of generations later, I am trying to relearn the "family business". How things have changed in our and our parents generation. Most of my family thinks I am a real kook.
Mountain View is a small town east of here. Nearby is the Ozark Folk Center and a wonderous place called Blanchard Caverns. When I can walk again (see, I am saying "when", not "if") I want to tour those caves again.
