Re: Inflammation and Iodine Therapy

These sites say muscle twitching can be a sign of magnesium deficiency. Have you been supplementing with magnesium while taking iodine?

Leg cramps, depression, insomnia or twitching of any small muscle in the body, increase in heart rhythm is a sign of magnesium deficiency. Low levels of magnesium also increase the risk of cardiovascular disease, high blood pressure and kidney stones. Magnesium is easily depleted by stress, coffee, Antibiotics , diuretics and alcohol, also diets high in starch. Wheat loses 90% of its magnesium during the milling process, so you cannot get enough from for a normal diet. Good sources come from whole wheat, brown rice, green leafy vegetables, shrimp, tuna, avocados, nuts and seeds, kelp and tofu. Magnesium over 350mg a day can become toxic causing kidney failure

However, this site says twitching can be a sign of sodium deficiency. Have you been doing your salt pushes. I actually do better with Sea Salt , so I know I was low.

SODIUM

What It Does:

Maintains normal heart rhythm; controls body's water balance; helps with muscle contraction; helps with the generation of nerve impulses.

Where You May Find It:

Processed foods, smoked meat and fish. Also added in cooking and as table salt . Most people take far more sodium than they need. Possible Signs Of Deficiency May Include: Nausea, fatigue, muscle cramps, apathy, muscle twitching, appetite loss.

Possible Signs Of Overdose/Toxicity May Include:

Fluid retention, tissue swelling, coma.

You may want to do some experimenting to find if lack of one of these is your problem.

I found this website that talks about magnesium helping inflammation also. Some of the websites say taking an Epsom Salts bath has helped, especially taking a bath with dead Sea Salt s. There were studies done on that if you want to research further.

Magnesium sulfate. Magnesium is a natural element that is known to have both anti-arthritic and anti-inflammatory properties. Magnesium can be absorbed by the skin and is one of the most important minerals needed by the body. Epsom Salts contain magnesium sulfate. A hot bath in the Epsom Salt solution is a good remedy for arthritis. It can even increase the patient’s blood circulation.

I have stopped taking Iodine a couple of times because of negative reactions, but I noticed the benefits stayed. So I went back to it in smaller does and am trying to work up slowly now. I kept checking this forum also, which has been very encouraging and open with everyone trying to figure out our delemas and trying to help.
