== I'm encouraged to hear that the really awful symptoms such as burning brain have subsided. We've heard from people who live with that symptom. Hg poisoning is a horrible way to die.
" I had Cutler's "Amalgam Illness" book Fed-exed to me overnight...
== You seem to still have solid intellectual ability. Honestly I'm surprised. My close female friend was in bad shape in this area after her accident. She was an emotional mess.
== I probably gave you the link to BillyMadison's experience. He was so messed up had to drop out of HS in his Senior year and take online classes.
== Andy C is a PhD chemist, not a novelist! He wrote the book towards the tail end of his recovery. Furthermore he is a classic techie. He's brilliant and seems to have admirable ethics, but don't expect great writing.
== The search feature at the googlebooks version is very, very helpful in conjunction with the hard copy of the books.
== You won't want to try to read them cover to cover. The section on "what Hg does to you" will be consoling" One challenge for so many of us with chronic Hg poisoning is that we could not get a good diagnosis. Seeing a matching list at least identifies "the enemy."
" am on the mend in terms of the acute neurotoxic effects (the burning, inability to sleep)
== You are REALLY fortunate.
"but 4 days out from the incident, I feel new symptoms that show more eerie damage...
== as expected : (
"... to the CNS: more fatigue/exhaustion from doing very little ....
== This is likely related to adrenals. AC has really good sections on adrenals in Amalgam
Illness book (AI).
== Fatigue can have many contributing factors--thyroid, mitochondria, etc.
"(in the back, shoulders),
== Search AI and especially his hair test book (HTI) for magnesium (Mg). Mg is among AC's shortest list of things to take.
== You'll probably also urinate more frequently, including have to get up one or more times per night. This is due in part to the endocrine impairment. You'll likely need more fluids and electrolytes.
"sensitivity to light, and the most telling: a persistent metallic taste in the mouth.
== My impression is that metalic taste is due to one of two things: a need for more zinc (Zn) and/or a need for more potassium. Do a search of the net for "taste test" for Zn and potsssium.
== Zn is also amone in AC's core 4 supplements.
" The nervous heart symptom passed;
== You are fortunate. You must have not been too sick when you had the setback. Some members struggle with this symptoms for a long time.
burning brain has passed. I have been sleeping reasonably with melatonin and taurine.
== That's great.
The only anxiety I have about doing Cutler's protocol alone is not having contingency plans if something goes very wrong.
== I hear you. I always tell people who have very little support around them to start with very low doses on round 1 and be sure to be quite prepared. Don't skimp on the antioxidants!
"I know to start with DMSA only and then add ALA for the brain 3 months in.
== #1 for AC is actually to stop exposure. So we must remove Amalgam
fillings. I suppose I provided the link to C Shade, PhD Chemistry on that subject, including his personal experience when he did a challenge test with Amalgam
" But the ND I'm talking with right now - who is more open minded than most doctors at all - still wants me to do a challenge test using DMPS.
== Doctors want to see the high levels on a test in the event of a law suit. There is no benefit for you.
== I actually think DMPS is better when Hg is the problem. I'm 1.5 yrs ahead of my close friend. When she saw my improbable gains at 1.5 yrs she thought she'd get rid of her amalgam and try. She had already started to get some gains in AC's recommended supplements for her symptoms.
== I had plenty of DMSA available to give her to try because I had been taking DMSA for my lead problem. However I was so convinced about the preference of DMPS when Hg is the problem that I typed up her med history, drove her 1+ hours to a doctor who I had good reason to think would prescribe DMPS, paid for the office visit and paid for the first bottle of DMPS. I then made custom capsules containing a small 5mg dose of DMPS so she would not feel overwhelmed and have a PTSD attack.
Considering how many horror stories I've read on dmpsbackfire.com, I am currently trying to persuade him to forego DMPS and instead do a hair analysis test via Cutler... at the very least, a short-term DMPS test using 50 mg and seeing if I tolerate it without reporting side effects for 14 days. Then doing a 3-day stint of DMPS every 8 hours with urine collection on the third day.
== That is almost exactly what I was going to suggest you do to give the doctor something. However you might want to take the urine sample on the second day.
== There is no way you should be messing with more than 10 mg doses given the horrible reaction to had and the lack of support around you in the event of a strange reaction.
He seems a little irked by the suggestion and keeps preaching that he's "done IV chelation for 40 years and has never had a patient report a problem." That seems dubious to me (really, NO problems in 40 whole years?),
== BS, I've seen plenty of adverse reaction reports in teh groups. I've seen plenty of reports from people who were uncomfortable with just 25mg doses of chelator orally in the early rounds.
" but I would rather have a doctor who is at least willing to try Cutler's method. He knows Cutler has the reputation and authority of expertise on the subject. He's saying I need to find some research on the possible drawbacks of doing oral chelation because I "might have a biased view."
== What "research?!" Good luck finding much on Hg anyway since it is not well funded.
-multivitamin (with no chelators)
Will any of these help with energy and fatigue?
== That is a solid list.
== Some find vitamin C to provide some energy, possibly related to its role in adrenals.
== Selenium gives me more motivation. I have a history of "catecholamine depression" and the related inattentive ADD. You may not get that problem. I don't have primarily a Hg problem but rather lead and cadmium. Se supports thyroid.
== Multi V can help with fatigue in a number of ways, including iron, etc.
== B vitamins such as B12 can help with fatigue. I'm sure your ND will discuss methylation. Hg messes with a methylation/B12 related enzyme.
== However, I bet the biggest issue is a need for adrenal cortex support--adrenal cortex glandular, maybe pregnenolone, etc. My friend benefited from those but also needed a little hydrocortisone medication according to a 4x saliva cortisol test. She was low most of the day.
== The more active detox groups at Yahoo (Frequent Dose Chelation mercury detox group) and FB's Cutler Think Tank are also good resources. You'll come across plenty of people with your symptoms. It is nice to not feel we are some strange creature that no one understands : ) My friend really took it to heart that I was the only person around her who could understand. Everyone else thought she was crazy.
