Compared to the doses some people use I am probably on a baby dose of Iodine
1 mg. But currently I am still on a high dose of Levothyroxine and my TSH is suppressed such that I don't really know how to proceed.
Since I am having thyroid problems I didn't want to start with one drop and then increase dropwise. I also never took enough Selenium to ensure that I would have enough Glutathione to buffer off possible reactions in the thyroid due to a possible increase in my own thyroid hormone production.
Yesterday my newly ordered N-Acetyl-Cysteine arrived and I want to start soon with supplementing this as well, since I also have liver problems. Because 20 years ago I had a successful interferone treatment because of a Hepatitis C infection that I received from my boyfriend at that time. I am virus free since the treatment for approximately 20 years. But the treatment itself has left its traces and I never really recovered after it. I guess only in the last years, after I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism, as I started to support my metabolism with supplements, food and protein I started to feel better. Now the last step is to also get rid of the synthetic thyroid hormones and for that I started with the iodine. But I also have changes in my breast tissue and I am also having various skin conditions that could be associated with Iodine
deficiency and I got tested once for Iodine
and urinary excretion was below 100 but above 50.
Although I usually don't have adverse effects due to supplements I just like to take things slow due to the complexity of everything.
Now, I am on this comparatively low dose. I dilute one drop of Lugol's
in 25 table spoons of water and add four table spoons to my coffee, this is approximately 250mg per table spoon. The taste is barely noticeable. It is more of a different feeling. Now I started to notice that it seems that I want to add more iodine. It is each time that I make myself some coffee that something in me wants to add some more tablespoons of the solution.
I have quit all processed foods for several years and I am used to listen to my body. If I want certain food, I will buy it. Since I am convinced that the desire for food indicates the need for certain nutrients in that food. It is also the same with respect to supplements. Sometimes I really feel that I want to drink my zinc water while sometimes I feel strong dislike against it. I interpret that as signal for "enough". The same goes with eggs or with certain types of meat and so on.
Sometimes after I drink the coffee I have my nose running but only for a short moment and the last days I feel tired and "hypothyroid" and I have headache and my face seems swollen. Today the headache was worst, but today also the longing for adding iodine to my coffee was strongest, so that I just added two more tablespoons to the coffee I am having right now.
The question is whether anybody here knows that feeling of wanting more iodine. Which at least in my case doesn't seems to be a conscious decision but rather the feeling of my body of wanting more of that particular taste in my coffee.
Do I interpret too much? Should I listen to it? Has anyone experienced this himself?
Also, last night while sleeping, it seems that the mucosals in my nose got swollen and dry to the extend that I woke up, since I could barely breathe anymore. Are the headache and the swollen sinuses known detox symptoms? Isn't 1mg to low to experience detox symptoms?
