I am allowing my children free access to all the fruit they desire. I switched from the basic iceburg lettuce tossed salad type deal to some huge, hefty everything-in-it salads at dinner, with some fabulous homeade salad dressings. I bought a bunch of raw nuts and seeds and allow the kids to munch on those with some raisins or craisins. The distiller is going all the time, and all of the kids have gotten used to the taste of distilled water. With three teenagers in the house9and one pre-teen), they are all concerned about their skin, so I am helping them to make right food choices for that area. I've really cut down on meat consumption for them. But they still want to junk out when they get together with their friends, and I have to allow them the opportunity to be young and experiment a little. They are usually crabbier after a get together, and I just tease them a little about their junk food hangover. This doesn't amuse them. :-)
I bought Alissa Cohen's book, "Living On Live Food," and used some of those recipes during my pre-cleanse. It is a great beginner's manual. I'm sure everybody on MH's forum knows and has experienced this, but until a person experiences at least a month of eating a raw vegan live food diet, s/he doesn't know how alive and sensual/perceptive s/he can be. Another thing that happens, at least in my personal experience, is all these health-conscious people start showing up in your life to give you positive encouragement. That has been such a blessing.
It's a walk (way of life), isn't it? And even fasting, which is a completely new experience for me, is starting to attract other fasters to me. Last night at the church cookout, I visited with a young friend who started college this year. When she saw my bottle of juice, she started rattling off about two friends in one of her classes that are doing a long fast in preparation for going onto the mission field.
You start with yummy recipes, like fresh fruit smoothies and slushes or banana "ice cream" you make with your juicer. You make fresh salsa (my family begs me to make it!) and dips they can eat with either tortilla chips or baby carrots or celery sticks. You start becoming a "food artist" and just play in the kitchen.
But, yeah, you just become a "living testimony" and allow them to watch you transform. Your enthusiasm, joy, laughter, and fun-loving spirit will be contageous. You become more attractive in every way over time, and you'll eventually win over some "converts." :-)
