...the drug (actually, truly, a poison) of which you're speaking: Vigamox (Moxifloxacin HCL 0.5%) is in a class of drugs called fluoroquinolone Antibiotics
. This means the poison fluoride is used to kill bacteria. The site below will probably tell you everything you need to know (and share with your mother). If that's not enough information, there are several link on that site that explain the very real dangers even further.
The horrible physical & mental reactions from fluoridated Antibiotics
can last for YEARS.
As far as something 'natural', Colloidal Silver
as eyedrops will prevent any infection. You might also want to consider bolstering your body's immune system with a good quality echinacea tincture (most are NOT good quality). Echinacea is such a fantastically effective immune system strengthener, that Native Americans used it for rattlesnake bites (now THAT's effective, eh?). But of course, only if you get a quality product. If you have a local health market/store, there's a good possibility they sell Herb-Pharm products...and that is a really good one.
Here's a few links on the herb Echinacea and how it works. My husband and I have been married 11 years, and in the last five years we've had ZERO colds or flu (and in the six years before that, we've had only 3 colds/1 flu between us). It was in the last five years that I re-discovered echinacea...a couple droppersful of tincture at the first sign of a cold or flu (or virutally anything) - and the symptoms are usually gone in a couple of hours.

While I know/believe Colloidal Silver
has a lot of good uses, I also know that it's a "killer" (and it kill ALL bacteria, not just the bad guys). This can play havoc with your body's good bacteria (in the same way that Antibiotics
do). Of course, a few drops in the eyes isn't going to have a major negative impact on your intestinal flora. We are so 'trained' to take something that KILLS bacteria, but it's almost always better to bolster your own immune system, and let your body do that. When the immune system is strengthened, it finds, identifies and kills the virus/bacteria...and then REMEMBERS them (natural immunity for the rest of your life!). But when we take something that kills lots of bacteria, the immune system doesn't get the chance to "learn that bacteria", hence develop immunity.
Wow, I got off on a ramble...'sorry about that. I sure hope you don't take that fluoridated antibiotic. Of all the various evil pharmaceutical drugs, that class of antibiotics is one of the worst.
