I was using non-fluoride toothpaste, but then I read that glycerin can stick to your teeth and interfere with remineralization. I used straight baking soda for a few months and it didn't hurt my enamel. I decided to try something a little "softer" and tastier, just as a personal preference, and loosely followed someone else's recipe:
-
Bentonite clay (I had some grayish-white stuff I'd gotten on sale at a health food store)
-
Sea Salt
- baking soda
- drops of peppermint oil
The bulk of this was clay, then less of the baking soda, then less
Sea Salt . I had saved a small chile paste jar so I put my tooth powder in there. I dip a wet toothbrush in it and shake off the excess. Everyone in the family could have their own jar.
In addition, if my gums feel a bit inflamed, I put hydrogen peroxide on my toothbrush and brush over my gums & teeth after my normal brushing & flossing.
I've enjoyed this one very much for the past couple of months. I also oil pull. I had a great dental checkup recently (actually, I always do), though they used that pumice-fluoride paste as usual. I swished with
Lugol's as soon as I got home & drank some diluted
Lugol's too.
I have used Dr. Bronner's peppermint soap a few times, but it seems to take forever to get the taste out of my mouth. Something in there, maybe the lye used in the soapmaking, tastes pretty nasty to me. I am using the minimum amount I can get on a toothbrush, too...but maybe I should have diluted it.
