Hi:
Thanks for responding, as I said in my first post, I've been reading up on St. John's Wort so yes, currently, I am taking it every 3 days and exploring lower dosages. I apologize for not being clearer. Sometimes I'll start typing and will leave out entire paragraphs trying to get all the info in my brain on the forum lol!!
I initially started at 900 mgs everyday for the first 6 weeks because:
1 I wanted to see if the higher dosage could "jump start" the process of healing (for lack of a better term) because of the frequency of my outbreaks. I was getting them twice a month and in between time I always had the feeling that one was about to happen...ugh! (please understand, I've suffered with this since 1988 so for me, I'll take the risk...I'd rather be the guinea pig in this case than constantly contagious and uncomfortable lol!)
and
2 I noticed on the bottles of lower dosages (of different brands of it) that the recommendation was to take one tablet two or three times a day which added up to approximately 900 mgs.
However, I'm now getting through each day unscathed (I'm in the middle of my menstrual cycle and for the first time not one outbreak or symptom ...yay!). So as I said before, I'm taking St. John's Wort every 3 days.
I'll probably do that until I've run out of the 900 mg ones I have. After that, I'll take a lower dosage, every 3 to 4 days and taper off to not taking it at all from there. Hopefully after which, I will not have to deal with taking "The Wort" again. It all depends on how my body can respond taking BHT alone with no help from it because the whole idea is not to stay on St. John's Wort if I can help it. However, I will keep some on hand if outbreaks happen again.
Regarding the effect of BHT making one "wonky" (cool word by the way, I use it all the time), I take all supplements, BHT included with breakfast. Only when I feel outbreaky would I take BHT twice a day but ALWAYS with food. (The first time I took BHT, it was on an empty stomach and I got pretty nauseous, after I read up on it again, the recommendation is to take it with food and even something oil based for better assimilation).
In my opinion, it's a food preservative so why not take it with food? lol
Please keep in mind the diet is also important, just because BHT is effective, I still don't consume a lot of sugar, chocolate, popcorn or anything with arginine. I suppose I should experiment with trigger foods eventually but for now....no.....
Take Care!
