Many, if not all of those typical first week detox crises can be avoided by starting out clean.
Try a pre-cleanse diet. For 3-5 days, eat fruits and vegetables only. Fruits am, veggies pm. Drink lots of extra water, herb teas if you like (no sugar). If you drink coffee, taper off and stop over the 3-5 days (never stop coffee cold--you will have the Mother of all detox headaches to show for it).
Sample of my pre-cleanse diet (I ate this way for 30 days before my 60 day mega fast):
Fresh fruit with natural yogurt for breakfast (whizzed as a smoothie if you like)
Raw veggie salad for lunch, dressed with good oil like olive or flax and fresh lemon juice
Homemade vegetarian vegetable soup for dinner
LOTS of water/herb teas... fresh juices if you like (fruits am/veggies pm)
NO breads, crackers, etc. Just the above.
THEN start your fast! Drink 3-6 cups fresh juice daily (make enough for a day, keep airtight and refrigerated).
DO keep your colon very clean every fasting day. You can do this with either a plain
water enema (best in the evening, or morning but can be done anytime); OR drink a cup of very strong herbal lax tea (like the famous Smooth Move) at bedtime, again in the am. OR drink the tea at night and in the am do the salt water flush (SWF) we all love to hate. My directions for the New Improved SWF:
Dissolve 2 tsp. uniodized
Sea Salt (available at health stores) in one cup drinkably hot water
Have three cups plain water standing by
Chug as much salt mixture as you can, chase with fresh. Chug and chase til ALL water is consumed. Voila!! About an hour later the entire
quart will exit the other end, carrying all within its path! NOT for the commute lol! Reserve this for the weekends or when you don't have a busy morning. It takes practice but is worth the effort to learn, as is a proper enema.
It is CRITICAL to do a colon cleansing routine every fasting day.
You can lose a pound a day fasting. However, be aware it will return with a vengeance if you are not prepared to change your diet and exercise program to keep it off!
Best to you,
Somer
