Hi North Coast Man
I have seen a lot of people with cervical spondylotic myelopathy. It is caused by the narrowing of the spinal canal, either by osteophytes or herniated discs. This puts pressure on the peripheral nerves that run from the brain to the extremities, and can cause numbness or tingling in the hands and feet, it can also cause atrophy in the hands.
In a more severe case a person will experience dizziness, especially when tilting the head back to look upward. If unexplained dizziness should occur, seek the advice of a good neurosurgeon as soon as possible. The same with atrophy of the hand or hands.
The dizziness would mean there is too much compression on the spinal cord, this restricts the flow of spinal fluid to the brain, and will cause permanent brain damage if left unchecked.
Do not use the same exercise for sciatica.
Do not go to the old fashioned method bone cracking chiropractor, that can be very dangerous for a cervical spine engery and can tear tissue. Dizziness means he causing more damage and could end up causing something extremely serious.
Here is what I suggest:
Take the same formula I suggested for sciatica.
Take Gaba 750 mg and L-Tyrosine 750 mg two times a day, this is to help repair the peripheral nerve damage.
L-arginine, because it repairs cell damage. It has been advertised as "natural Viagra", but this is not the purpose I am suggesting it for.
DISC GARD+ 90 Tablets may help, its a Dietary Supplement of Vitamin D, C and B-6 with Calcium, Magnesium, Manganese, Potassium and Zinc Plus Glucosamine HCL and MSM.
I have not seen any positive results from the BF&C formula.
Do self applied Bio-Cranial Neck Stretch exercises to relieve pressure on your cervical spinal cord, to gradually work the disk and joints back into their proper allignment.
My friend is a modern method Chiropractic naturopath and accupuncturist. He charges $60 a visit to do this for 30 seconds on each side. The self applied method they learn is just as effective but they don't teach it to patients. Now don't ask me why ;)
Sit in a chair with shoulders back
Turn your head to the right
Feel the bone behind your right ear with the fingers on your left hand
Hold that position. Now relax your right shoulder completely as you pull to the left side with your left hand for 30 seconds. If you feel pain, use less pressure. You are not supposed to force it and create pain.
Now, turn your head to the left
Feel the bone behind your right ear with the fingers on your right hand
Hold that position. Now relax your left shoulder completely as you pull to the right side with your right hand for 30 seconds. If you feel pain, use less pressure. You are not supposed to force it and create pain.
Gently do this each day avoiding pain, the neck will slowly stretch more with each treatment.
