Hey Beginnings!
Beg Q: what should i look out for when looking at the ingredients... should it be microflitered/ionized etc?
NCMan A: The one brand that I recommend is called "THE ULTIMATE NUTRITION WHEY" by Ultimate Nutrition. The only ingredients listed on the container are Premium Whey Protein Isolate and Lecithin. That's it! It also lists all the Essential Amino Acids and Non-Essential Amino Acids above the ingredients. One scoop has 26 grams of protein which is good! There is only 1 gram of carbs and 50 grams of sodium. There are NO artificial sweeteners, colors, additives, or anything. Just the two ingredients. And trust me, by its self, it tastes like ground up oatmeal; very bland, which is what I like as I taste nothing else meaning nothing artificial.
Just a few minutes ago, I made a shake and added some organic vanilla extract, teaspoon of Rapadura Pure Cane
Sugar (I usually add STEVIA but was lazy and grabbed the first thing!), and ground up flax seeds to it. YUM!!... it was pretty good. I bought my container at Vitamin Shoppe and not sure if any other vitamin stores stock it.
Honestly, I don't understand all the microfiltered\ionized terminology as I am just concerned about getting good natural protein in my system. I still eat chicken, fish, fruits, veggies, oils and very little red meat. < ----- (all organic)
Beg Q: do the added ingredients that all the big names include do harm?
NCMan A: YES - Several years ago when I was working out very heavy, I was taking another brand and did not really pay attention to the ingredients. It had a ton of artificial garbage in it so I would definitely be most concerned about anything artificial. If you are concerned about NOT adding carbs then the brand above is good, but if want more carbs then eat something with the protein shake like Ezekeil bread with a banana, almond butter, etc (of course, organic).
Hope this helps!
