Hey,
I'm not sure who you were referring to, but I’m aware that anorexia is a mental disorder, and I know everything there is to know about it... I have personally suffered from this and I'm still fighting it- everyday is a battle, mentally and physically, and I wouldn't wish it on anyone else. You're right, just as I said before, it’s not something you choose; however, there are some little girls who decide that they want to "turn anorexic" because they desperately want to lose weight, without understanding what the word even means. They think it’s some kind of miracle diet, rather than an actual sickness… they come to random websites looking for girls who already have anorexia, expecting them to teach them how to do it, and they try to “catch it” like it's contagious or something. At such a young age, she’s probably at the beginning of high school, and I would hate for yet another young girl to ruin her youth or the rest of her life by encouraging her ED. She needs to know that it’s not all fun and games…it’s the complete opposite. And she probably doesn’t realize there’s any difference between being an anorexic, and being an occasional water faster. You can't be anorexic "on and off" as she claimed-- either you have the disorder, or you don't. This suggests that she has tried to force herself to stop eating a few times and was unsuccessful half of the time, so she’s looking for "tips" to help force the lifestyle. ....Well, you don't have to tell an anorexic how to stop eating, or how to hide it; this comes naturally to them. Anything that encourages fasting would be too triggering for her. So, I thought it would be smart to tell a girl who may be on the verge of developing a real ED, to stop looking for advice on how to die (which is the honest truth), and to talk to someone she knows about whatever is going on in her life… and also nourishing her body with fruits and vegetables, losing weight the easy way. There’s really no other good way to respond to that kind of post, other than to tell her the truth and give some helpful advice to point her in the right direction. As far as her coming back to this forum, it really shouldn’t matter, because this isn’t a pro-ana forum, it’s about water fasting. If she keeps coming here, it might make her situation much worse.
