The cow is the animal that is associated with Earth in Chinese thought. This symbol was chosen for its docility and devotion as it forever roams the earth.
For myself, the cow implies devotion in its most idealistic form. We learn devotion from the manner in which the Earth devotes herself to its subjects: without question or prejudice, and without limits. To bear with all things, the way the Earth bears with the mistakes of mankind is a noble trait. This means not only to bear with the mistakes of our fellows, but also to bear with our own mistakes in the past.
Buildings are manmade things... constructed to protect us from the moods of the Earth. It is also a favorite dream symbol for the Self. We build our Self brick by brick and as equally as it provides us shelter and protection, it also serves as a barrier between us and Other. For a cow-- simple gentle devotion to be nowhere to be found in this construction, this building... I wonder if it is possible you have let a past situation go, and are now seeking to find its meaning. Perhaps something that occurred during the time of your life in which you resided in the domain of your previous landlord.
For myself, cats herald symbols of personal independence and personality. Often these traits feel compromised when acting from devotion. Sometimes we feel we must choose between the two.
These are my subjective thoughts, perhaps you might find them useful.
