Hello, I have read some info here at Cure zone that it's not good to sleep on one's left side if one has gallstones. I read that stones can migrate into the bile duct causing more pain. This sounds logical but I have a great dilemma here: It is very difficult for me to sleep on my right side, I am not allowed to sleep on my stomach and I get tired of sleeping only on my back.
You see, I was in an auto accident in 1998. I was hit from behind on the back right corner of my car. So my neck, right shoulder and right hip all suffered from pain. I still have some troubles with my neck (hardly ever any with my shoulder) but my right hip still has large muscle knots in it, even though I had 6 months of physical therapy and massage following the accident.
When I try to lie on my right side, those knots in my right hip and thigh are like laying down on some large peebles. It's very difficult to go to sleep that way. Yet I seem to have a need to sleep on my side in order to feel most comfortable and go to sleep, thus I tend to lie on my left side. Of course, when I flush I do lie on my right side for 30 min. before laying on my back to finally go to sleep. But other nights (when not flushing) I surely would like to lie on my left side to go to sleep.
(I can't sleep on my stomach anymore because it causes my weakened neck to go into misalignment of the vertebrae requiring another trip to the therapist. Also, lying on my stomach will now cause my right hip to come forward in an unnatural position which will be painful when I awaken and will cause me to limp until I see the therapist again.)
My question: would it really be so bad for my gallbladder if I would lie on my left side to go to sleep, at least occasionally?
