Had a root canal filling in upper jaw just in front of upper left 6 tooth, in early august this year, tooth cracked one week later, had to have Amalgam drilled out and new bigger one put in. six hours after this for the first time in my life experienced severe dizziness lasting four hours, which got worse whenever i rested on operated side, but got better whenever i rested on opposite side. ever since I have had continuous tinnitus in left ear and modest but manageable feeling of dizziness.Also have in past week developed irritable upper respiratory cough GP says just a coincidence and probably an ear infection, but its now lasted three weeks and am beginning to wonder, any ideas please, thanks Mike.

MoreThis is a reply to # 38,670hmmm...well u should wonder..did u take any other medication right after these things happen??? maybe its just a side effect of ur Amalgam root canal filing...or better if u let ur dentist know about this things..

Very interested to hear of your symptoms - you also have my sympathy
I myself have had various problems since having had a root canal. I have posted on the root canal forum descibing my symptoms. Basically I had a sudden onset of a bitter taste from my gums after my root canal treatment. A few months later I developed mild dizziness and tinnitus in my right ear ( the side that I had the treatment). I also suffer from periods of pain in the jaw area, headaches, heartburn and fatigue. This has been going on for 2 years now. I have had a CT scan, numerous X rays, a retreatment of the root canelled tooth, and a apiodectomy - none of which helped. I finally had the tooth extracted in May but my symptons have persisted. During the last 2 years I have seen numerous dentists none of which could expalin what was happenning and/or refused to believe there was any connection between my symptoms and the treatment.
I am now seeking help from a specialist dentist in Befordshire, UK, who will look at things like toxicity from dental materials and cavitations.
Please let me know how you get on and whether your symptoms persist

Interesting comments, hope you get your probs sorted eventually. My onset of dizziness was so sudden happening so quickly after dental treatment that I find it hard to believe it is of another origin, as suggested by my dentist and GP. Have started to take charcoal tablets, and will advise if it improves situation. Think am just going to get tooth removed, and hope for the best ! The problem here in the UK is there are very few dentists that take the opinion that Mercury or root canal dead teeth might be a problem !! I suppose when 100k plus salaries/self interest are involved the truth can easily become slightly foggy !- Re: Is Amalgam root canal filling ca... cool_mama_maria

This is a reply to # 38,681Dizziness now not so apparent but, a light headed almost dizzy feeling, and if i drive in the car and get out after an hour or two definitely feel slightly dizzy. Tinnitus remains the same, a permanent high pitch ringing and intermittent low freq rumble ! (Occasional itching within ear) Also have a persistent upper respiratory irritation causing frequent coughing day and night, improved by sucking a sweet/ and or drinking/eating. So if anyone has a good idea, lets hear it Thanks.

This is a reply to # 38,704No none atall, just suggested its probably an infection. I still have most of the symptoms, but the upper respiratory dry cough and dizziness is slightly better. but not the tinnitus, even revisiting the GP only suggests inner ear infection. Maybe some Antibiotics should have been offered, but obviously no good if viral infection.

This is a reply to # 38,707I had the same experience, not so sudden though. It took about 4 months after the root canal on the upper left molar before I started experiencing tinitis in the left ear. It's been around now for three years. I'm planning on getting my tooth removed.

i read your massage i have the same symptoms , i was palnning to go i think to the same Dr you were planning to go to . i would like to ask you how do you feel now do yo feel better ? you know it is very expensive and i really need your feedback . as far as i understand from your massage that u removed the filling before in some other place i-e before you went to this dentist . i am planning to remove the filling in his clinic , i would really appreciate any piece of inforamatin from you . thank you in advance .
