Novices should never attempt cold or even cool enemas, they can cause severe and immediate cramping. Ideally, enema water should be a few degrees below body temperature. Test the water like you would bath water or a baby bottle. Also, for the first few times use only a mild saline solution with
Sea Salt . Strong cleansing potions like hydrogen peroxide, lemon juice, or
Epsom Salts can cause a lot of discomfort and irritation. Saline enemas are fine for relieving an impacted lower bowel or in the early stages of colon cleansing. Finally, as already mentioned, do not try and overload the colon with water all at once. You may need to void the enema and repeat the process a number of times to use all three quarts, especially in the beginning. I suspect at least one of these things happened to you:
1. Cramping from a too cold enema
2. Too strong an enema solution
3. Water got trapped behind some hardened fecal matter, and pain resulted from trying to push it out from behind a large and hardened mass that could not be expelled.
Go slow, warm and easy. Retain a little water for as long as you can to soften the fecal matter in the lower bowel, then void and repeat. Enemas generally do not cause pain when done correctly.
