You're right. It's a good idea to take three a day. They say you will start out with the runs, but once your colon is cleaned out, your stool will become barely solid and will stay that way. Yet, if you were to take more than what your body needs, your stool will never get hard.
You should probably take it every day for a month if you have a problem with constipation. After a month, you shouldn't need to. At that point, your colon will be cleaner, healthier and able to perform better. Then you can save more money and not put yourself through the chore of taking it every morning if you don't want to. If you don't have candida, apples and some other fruits are a good laxative. A glass of apple juice a day is great.
