So I chased down this link, which led me to some very churned up waters...
From what I can gather on the net, the counter claims made by Tim Bolen look to be baseless even though they are quite shrill and virulent. Bolen goes all over the place, and even gets into a grand conspirary. It's pretty weird, with lots of contradictions, like stating that Barrett is being paid many millions by large corporations, but then he says that quackwatch is so small, stupid, etc. that it's not even a factor.
Here's an example of Bolen's work: 'Every "cure" since polio has been suppressed, and the proponents of those cures, reviled by the "Quackbuster Conspirators."
Statistics show that every one of those "cures" worked to some extent...'
No references given. I'd love to see the list of those cures and the "statistics". Why keep them a secret, Tim?
It's worth taking a look at the response from the guy Bolen attacked:
This is all pretty disappointing, as I'm looking for some specific medial answers. I know they are there, but teasing them out from the sewage that guy like Bolen churn out is proving to be an extremely irritating process. It's a bit like television - a few gems embedded in lot of garbage. I need a tivo so I can fast forward to the useful information. :-)
To an earlier poster who declared that if you mention candida to a doctor, they will laugh in your face: If your doctor does that, find a doctor who did better in medical school. Candida is in the Merck manual - it's a known pathogen and can lead to serious problems. At least he/she should know that much.
