Hi, I'm working my way towards a raw diet. It is hard to give up cooked food cold turkey, but I am finding as I eat/drink more raw food/green smoothies that cooked food is making me sick. Right now I have a major stomach ache from yesterday because I ate cooked food. My body is to the point where I'm starting to get punished if I don't eat raw.
As for organic produce - it's better to eat fruits and veggies any way you can get them than all of the chemical boxed junk (it's not food) that is being made. Even organic fruits and veggies have some residual pesticides/chemicals in/on them - from all of the DDT that is still in the ground from years ago and from all of the chemicals in the air, etc.
That being said, I personally prefer to buy organic fruits and veggies because they taste much better to me (they don't taste chemically to me like non-organic produce does) and I need less of them because they are more filling to me (they must have more vitamins/minerals than non-organic produce). Organic produce is expensive where I live, too, and in the summer I find organic farmers' stands and CSAs to help with the expense (I live in the northeast).
My advice, do what you have to do to get started going raw, and your body will start to tell you when you're doing something wrong, i.e., listen to how your body feels and connect it to what you've eaten. This is what I've started doing - as I sit here with a big belly ache.
