Hi - sorry it took me so long to reply. Have you ever had your blood iron levels checked? Are your red blood cell counts low? A doctor once told me (and I agree with him) that the hair mineral analysis testing is accurate for most minerals but certain minerals (and the example he used was iron) are more accurate if tested via blood. If you live in Canada, this test is free. If you live in the US, however, you will have to pay for this but there is a way around this - if you go to a blood bank and donate blood, they will test your iron levels beforehand by pricking your finger. It's probably the fastest and cheapest way to find the answer you're looking for.
The problem with iron supplementation is that yeast cultures need iron to multiply :( (I think I have a good article on this somewhere, I will try to find it). If you truly need to boost your iron stores, I would think that the reactions you are getting from iron supplementation would be a good thing. However, if your iron stores are normal, addition iron will only screw up other mineral levels. Of course, no one should completely stop taking iron (unless advised to do so by a physician). It's when you try to select and megadose certain minerals that you get imbalances causing illness.
Hope that helped a bit!
