I read an interesting article (on this website but I can't remember where) about the differences in juicers. This guy said that the motion created by the centrifugal juicers creates electricity which kills the enzymes in the fruits and vegetables and that the masticating juicers did not do this. Anybody have any opinions on this?-

This is a reply to # 28,841It is the friction induced heat that causes some degeneration in the enzymes. Masticating juicers are definatly superior, no question.

This is a reply to # 28,842Plus the masticators allow you to make baby food, nut/seed butters and milks, sorbets, and some even make a FAIR 'grass' juice (for occasioanal use).
Nowadays, there are 'single screw', and the 'twin screw' at low RPM (which is the ideal).
I don't intend to start a wheatgrass quibble, I definitely prefer a dedicated wheatgrass machine for everday, or heavy use.- Re: Furthur... fsnaturelady

I have the trustworthy Champion, its an antique though, so I CAN do a wheatgrass in a pinch. Also when friends want one, they are fairly easy to come by at a CHEAP price.
They are soo darn heavy people 'give' them away at sales.
If I was to start over I'd get the 'Green Power' with the magnet stuff & all the attachments (I'm big into asian cooking and would love to try the Mochi deally).
There is something about Samson-style that turns me off. Even though the 'Angela' has a lifetime warranty, I doubt its worth the price.
I had a friend who got the complete setup for the same price as a new Champion.
I wouldn't necessarily buy a NEW Champion off the shelf though...hold out.
If I was blessed more monetarily I'd get the 220V Green Power from Hong Kong.
Professionals like the Ruby or Norwalk are great BUT all they do is juice.- Re: I'll try... fsnaturelady

This is a reply to # 28,880I know that there are specific Wheatgrass juicers out there (I'd have to look them up), but I am planning on getting the Omega 8003 which does several things, apparently doing them all well -- one of those functions is juicing Wheatgrass. This machine is a single-gear and seems to be very good.
I just got the VitaMix which is MUCH better than one I had quite a number of years ago.
Later, I plan on getting the Excalibur 3000 Dehydrator in order to have those crackers!

This is a reply to # 28,881I'll look but I've never seen an Omega that wasn't centrifugal-how could it do grass.
I'm still leary of juicers that advertise "grass & juice". grass requires closer tolerances than veggies for BEST quality.
For "juice therapy" Vita-Mix is not the juicer to use.
Make sure you get the 'extra' plastic screen for dehydrator. You don't want your food on metal screen, plus its easier to cleap clean.- Re: I'll try... fsnaturelady

I got the Vitamix for powerful mixing of the smoothies, etc. and for whole-food drinks/soups. Although I am trying to get away from bread, I have a family to consider; grinding the kernels makes for a simply delicious loaf of bread with all of the nutrients and no preservatives . It is easy and quick, too! The bread will be for transition and, no doubt, for next Winter.
For sure, I will be getting the Texflex sheets.

This is a reply to # 28,886Yes, I use the Vita-Mix -- it takes about one minute! I also bought the second 'dry' container for that grinding, as well as for grinding nuts -- last weekend, I turned the machine on, poured the cup of nuts into the container and immediately shut it off -- the nuts were just the right size -- fantastic, just to get things done so quickly -- and well. The blade is slightly different in the dry container in that it keeps the food above the blades, rather than drawing them down as needed for smoothies. Then, I just add the other ingredients and get to it!
And, not a raw food, but frozen peaches with sugar, vanilla and whipping cream -- ice cream in 30 seconds! At least, there were no preservatives . Sorbets will be very easy with this machine, I am sure.
I am buying this over three months from Vita-Mix -- a nice feature.
