2. Many, if not most creationists are dishonest in their dealings with evolutionists. This dishonesty includes contacting evolutionists under false pretenses. This commonly takes the form of a diehard creationist emailing an evolutionist under the guise of being a student with a homework assignment or someone who was "just wondering". Another common practice, is to quote prestigious and/or popular scientists out of context, to give the false impression that they do not believe that life has come into existence through an evolutionary process. Yet another practice, is to post a question or argument to a news group, several months after the posting of a satisfactory answer or response to the exact same question or argument. This is done for the “benefit” of newcomers, unaware of the previous postings.
3. To engage creationists in formal debates lends credibility to creationism, which evolutionary biologists and most other evolutionists regard as being as valid as flat-earthism. Asking biologists to debate creationists is like asking astronomers to debate astrologers.
4. Taking the time to respond to creationist questions and accusations, usually just results in more questions. The number of questions which one can possibly ask about biological evolution is almost without limit. A biologist could spend their entire career responding to these questions, posed by those who are not really in search of answers and who will likely not even consider the responses anyway.
5. Evolutionary biologists and nearly all other scientists are convinced that life evolved and continues to do so. They are convinced of this fact, because the fossil, observational, anatomical, genetic and chemical evidence can only be explained by evolutionary processes. However, this does not mean that evolutionary biologists have fully explained how all of the mechanisms involved operate or that they agree with each other in regards to how evolution works. This is not a sign that the modern theory of evolution is in any way, weak. Rather, it is indicative of the complexity of the processes involved and of life in general. Unfortunately, creationists try to exploit this uncertainty with regard to many of the details of evolution, to suggest that evolution itself is in question among evolutionary biologists, which it is not.
6. Nearly all of the questions currently being posed by creationists, have been answered by evolutionists many times before. Answers to nearly all of these questions are available on the Internet. One of the best sites I have found to find responses to the most common questions posed by creationists, is The Talk Origins Archive at
http://www.talkorigins.org/.
7. Many evolutionists who are concerned about the attempts made by many creationists to introduce creationism into the
Science curriculum of the public schools, find that there time is better spent engaging in various forms of public outreach and education, rather than wasting their time debating creationists.
8. Debating creationists will not make them go away. They are like flies at a picnic. You can shoo them off your food, but they just keep coming back.
