I'm about to embark on my second MC, my first was over 6 years ago so while it's been some time, I do have experience with it. I've also trained for and completed 2 full marathons, several half's and 10K's, and 3 Oly distance triathlons. Through those experiences, I'm very familiar with endurance training nutritional needs.
I can honestly say that
Master-Cleanse or any fast for that matter will not be enough to support you while training for a marathon. Your body needs whole, nutrient dense foods to rebuild the muscles that you are tearing down through long distance running.
To take it one step further from my experience, I have also struggled with
Sugar addiction/habits, over-eating, bingeing, you name it...I've done it. The
Master-Cleanse didn't cure your
Sugar habit before, you did. Through your determination. You can do it again if you work hard at it but be gentle with yourself too. Don't expect perfection. None of us are perfect!
Two books that really helped me with my eating habits and
Sugar addiction are:
"Thin Tastes Better" by Steven Gullo, MD. (discusses behavior changes)
"Potatoes Not Prozac" by Kathleen DesMaisons, PhD., Addictive Nutrition (on sugar addition and the biochemical reaction that occurs in our brain/bodies when we ingest simple sugars.)
Hope that helps! Good luck on your marathon!
