Yes, I think you are conflating two different issues here. That God speaks to us today by a variety of means is not in question. Whether thru His word, the Holy Spirit, prayer, a sermon, the wise counsel of a Christian friend, etc. All are means that God uses to speak to us today.
The subject under discussion (as I understood it) was whether a false prophet can still be a true believer with a valid ministry? I would argue that presuming to speak on God's behalf on matters that are explicitly proscribed by Scripture (date-setting being one of them) is sufficient grounds for disqualification as a teacher. But to conclude that such a person is beyond hope or redemption is a step too far.
I doubt that Wilkerson, Wurmbandt or Lindsay (et. al) deliberately set out to deceive their 'flocks', yet to the extent they were believed, that is precisely what they did. I don't want to second-guess their motives for going down that road (I have my own theory about that), but history is littered with lives that have been wrecked by exactly this kind of hubris.
The lesson is a basic one that any professing Christian ignores at their peril - if Scripture says don't do it, then ............well, I think you can work that one out for yourself.
PS Having said that, here is a patently 'false prophet' who is ............err.......patently beyond the pale:

His motives are patently obvious, and he is patently not a Christian in any sense of the term that I understand.
Although I don't agree with this guy's eschatological standpoint either, he provides a patently useful debunking service with reference to the above scam:

Is that patently obvious enough for you?
@ Trapper: Well, we aim to amuse.
So you think Richard Wurmbrand (for example) is hell-bound? Seriously? Have you ever read any of his books? Books such as Tortured for Christ, or If That Were Christ, Would You Give Him Your Blanket? I defy you to read either book, but especially the latter, and not be moved to tears. If you are able to do that, then you had better check your radial artery for a pulse.
If he is lost coz he stupidly dared to put a date on the second advent (= false prophet), then I must wonder if it's possible for anybody to be saved.
@ Refreshed: Does that answer your question?
You 'ignore' me by quoting me, then commenting on that quote? That's novel.
But thanks for the permission to ignore you. I might just take you up on that. Wouldn't want to oppress you too much with my fakery.
