Also, the Bulls-eye rash does not always mean Lyme. In some southern states, it can be STARI ( Southern Tick Associated Rash Illness ) which is supposedly caused by a different but related spirochete.
The delay is due to an incubation period of a few days before the spirochetes start migrating.
Not to panic, as long as it was caught in the rash stage, the outcome is usually better than if the bulls-eye is ignored.
