This is quite a vintage photograph, 1893, worthy of saving a copy, thank you.
Be this as it may, I do not see a square earth per se but instead see a round north pole protuberance in the middle of a container of sorts. The protuberance appears to sink on a line roughly across northern South America and centrat Africa and below this line the surface flattens as it progresses towards the outer portion of the container, but my eyes see a bowl-like inner lip and a square outer boundary .... perhaps something lost in the visual imagery as depicted but I gather the idea is, flip the square photo to reveal the south pole part if the world .... good find nonetheless.
