okay, this is not really in the realm of "health"-- or is it??
when I was a child, my mother always made stewed prunes for christmas breakfast.
(along with 'raspberry braid'(a bread with saffron)and a lime jelly thing that had red grapes in it. SOOO good. To her great credit, she always used lots of fresh limes, and so on, and this was 'back in the day'!-- Velveeta and bologna ruled!)
But, on to the prunes: they were dried but reconstituted in brewed coffee(yikes!)
and orange juice and tangerine peel along with cinnamon sticks. To top it off, this was served with a brandy 'hard sauce'. I couldn't handle the coffee these days, let alone the 'hard sauce' though I must admit, I do cast a curly eye toward the prunes at times.
