I am doing a Master of Wellness degree at RMIT University in Melbourne (online) and my major research project (thesis) is on water-only fasting. At this stage I am particularly interested in the benefits of water-only fasting for Depression
and other mental illness, and for metabolic syndrome factors. This is the name for a group of risk factors that occur together and increase the risk for coronary artery disease, stroke, and type 2 diabetes. However, I am also very interested to hear stories of healing for other diseases and for general health and spiritual benefits.
Metabolic syndrome is present if you have three or more of the following signs:
* Blood pressure equal to or higher than 130/85 mmHg
* Fasting blood Sugar
(glucose) equal to or higher than 100 mg/dL
* Large waist circumference (length around the waist):
Men - 40 inches
Women - 35 inches
* Low HDL cholesterol:
Men - under 40 mg/dL
Women - under 50 mg/dL
* Triglycerides equal to or higher than 150 mg/dL
Mental illness and cardiovascular diseases account for 70% of total lost output from non-communicable diseases (World Economic Forum 2012).
My supervisor has requested that I conduct a survey of people who have water-only fasted. I am interested to hear from anyone who has fasted with water-only, to tell me about their experiences - both positive and negative. Names will be kept confidential. The information is for survey and research purposes only.
I will prepare a questionnaire and send it to everyone who responds to this request.
I look forward to hearing from you all. Please send your email and name details and I will reply ASAP.
PS. I highly recommend Randi Fredricks latest book (2012) "Fasting: An Exceptional Human Experience".
