The person to offer you some help or suggestions was your dentist. I'm surprised they didn't advise you. Your dentist was there and could best tell you the things you can do in your particular case. Why not call him and ask him?
Someone suggested in another post, special toothpaste you can try. That is an option. You can also try nutritional supplements such as calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, vitamin B complex, and vitamin C which are sometimes prescribed for prevention of decay and repair of gum tissue.
In addition to the supplements, I'd floss daily and gently bush the gums after brushing the teeth. I hope this helps.
